X-Men: Days of Future Past (Film Review)

May 20, 2014
Okay Brett Ratner, you can now step aside. Bryan Singer, well technically everyone we all love from the original X-Men trilogy and "First Class" are back in this crowded, superhero extravaganza. That is basically how I can describe 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', and I think we can now breath again smoothly because it literally trashes every single one of the many non-sense events from "The Last Stand" and change for something better. This "X-Men" saga has been on a bumpy ride --there might be a few misses and jumps, but "Days of Future Past" started on a new drive, and there's a far more interesting and better road beyond that.

The movie started in a dystopian future on the year 2023, where mutants and it's "homo-sapiens" devotees are washed away by Sentinels, a genetically-engineered robots created by Bolivar Trask. But only a few survived, --Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr and a few others planned of sending back Wolverine's mind into his 1970s body to find young Charles and Erik, to convince young Mystique to not kill Bolivar Trask. And to prevent the Sentinel plan from happening; saving the entire mutants in the future.

Did I clearly explained the plot of the movie? It's a tricky premise to handle, especially when you're dealing with time-travel. Anyways, there's a lot of storylines involved, but hey Bryan Singer is here, --and he got everything right. After two unforgettable disasters ( I'm referring to Superman Returns and Jack The Giant Slayer. That's right.), he is returning to where he is more comfortable and what he is best: X-Men. What he did in this film is to throw everything for the audiences to make something quite satisfying and entertaining as possible. And the way he handles his characters and the story are just so natural.
Heck he made Quicksilver so much fun. One of the movie's best scenes, a prison escape sequence involving this mutant was a blast. What a lame costume though..

What a performance from the cast it has. As always, Hugh Jackman is literally the perfect guy as Wolverine. No explanation needed. Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are always phenomenal. But it was James McAvoy who brought so much at the table. He was just damn great as young Professor X. "Fyuutchaaa".

The action sequences on the other hand looked awesome. The film's opening battle sequence was perfect. (Portals. Portals everywhere!!) The visuals were gorgeous, the 3D really utilize this perfectly. The final 20 minutes were also brilliant. What a way to revive a long burdened saga in it's most deserved position.

Incredibly satisfying, 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' combines everything we all love in this [X-Men] saga, --to create not just of it's best installment, but one of the greatest Superhero films. How was Brett Ratner doing these days anyway?

The geek rates it 9.0/10.
